Return of the Jedi: “I’m rather embarrassed, General Solo, but it appears that you are to be the main course at a banquet in my honor” ~C-3PO
The 4th of May has been unofficially deemed Star Wars Day by fans across the world. Everything from Social Media to t-shirts bear the pun – “May the 4th be with you”. People everywhere re-live their favorite moments, dress like their favorite characters, throw themed parties and plan epic movie nights. Even LucasFilms have embraced the holiday as their own and use the day to showcase highlights from the ever popular Star Wars movies.
In our house, my son and I have created our own Star Wars Day tradition. We break out my Un-Official Star Wars Cook Book – Wookie Cookies, and Other Galactic Recipes, and together we plan our celebratory meal. The glossy (and more importantly, easy to clean) pages are filled with fun titles like Hoth Chocolate and Tuskan Raider Taters, and the recipes are so simple it makes it easy for kids to help with preparation.
This year we are obsessed with Yoda Soda.
The recipe in the book called for the combination of fresh lime juice, sugar, and sparkling water which then gets topped with lime sherbet.
I made it even EASIER by using Lemon/Lime flavored Soda which then gets topped with a scoop of lime sherbet.
As with most of the recipes in this book they aren’t complicated masterpieces, and quite frankly, are easily replaced (and probably tastier) with your own ingredients, but we love the fun titles and the photos that accompany them. But for me, our Star Wars Day tradition is more that just the meal we create. Its the shared love of a Galaxy Far Far Away and I wouldn’t trade it, or this book, for all the galactic credits in the empire.
If you have any fun Star Wars Day Recipes or traditions I’d love to hear them.
Happy Star Wars Day and “May the Fourth be with you”!
